Finance minister blamed Commerce ministry for cheating cases in e-commerce
Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal has made it clear that the Commerce Ministry will be held responsible for e-commerce fraud. The finance minister clarified his position on the issue at a virtual meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Economic and Public Procurement at noon on Wednesday (September 22).
Replying a question at the end of the meeting, Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal said, "These institutions are being set up with the permission of someone." The Ministry of Commerce is giving clearance here. They have to take the responsibility primarily. I think everyone else who is involved with them should take responsibility.
However, the government will take responsibility to solve the problem, he said. In response to another question, he said, basically the job is now with our finance ministry. Bangladesh Bank has a role here to play, they bring these issues to us here. There are IT issues, there is ICT ministry, they will also take responsibility. These e-commerce organizations sometimes create and deceive people. And it is going on. As it used to be, it is going on in a different form now. It used to be done manually, now it is done electrically. Being done in a digitalized way. People believe now, how much will be controlled? The government must take responsibility.
